Vikings set to invade Vista
The 22nd annual Vista Viking Festival showcases Nordic heritage in one of the city’s most popular events
VISTA — Hordes of Valkyries, berserkers, shieldmaidens and gods will descend into the city for the 22nd annual Vista Viking Festival.
The popular event runs Saturday and Sunday at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum and showcases the historical and cultural legends of Vikings. The festival is hosted by the Norway Hall Foundation as a fundraiser, but the foundation also donates proceeds to other groups.
The event runs from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
As for the festival, one of the most popular attractions is the weapons range where people can throw axes and spears, along with shooting a bow and arrow. There are also live fight demonstrations, live music, Nordic vendors, breweries, meaderies, food, competitions and much more, according to Joey Hill, vice president of the foundation.
The festival also collaborated with Prohibition Brewing Company and will showcase its Asgard Ale. The beer was officially launched on Aug. 23.
