Scripps announces new hospital in San Marcos
The region’s largest healthcare provider will build ambulatory and hospital on 13 acres in North City
SAN MARCOS — The city has become the hub of health care for North County.
Scripps Health announced Monday with its plan to move forward on a new hospital campus on a 13-acre site in North City, according to a press release. The first phase of the project will be a comprehensive ambulatory facility. The campus’ second phase will be an acute care hospital, according to Scripps.
Scripps purchased roughly 80 acres in San Marcos for a hospital and medical center in 1990 with the intent to build a Scripps San Marcos campus for ambulatory care and an acute care hospital.
The new facilities will be off Twin Oaks Valley Road near state Route 78. San Marcos Councilman Mike Sannella said Scripps is committing $1.2 billion for the facilities.
