More North County candidates emerge
New faces for City Council races in Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido and San Marcos emerge as the filing period and election draw closer

NORTH COUNTY — There has been plenty of movement regarding City Council candidates across the region leading into November.
As six new faces have emerged in Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido and San Marcos, some have withdrawn their plans and moved on. And in mid-July, the filing period officially opens and runs through mid-August, which will cement candidates for the election.
The District 3 race between incumbent Terra Lawson-Remer and challenger and former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will determine who controls the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Lawson-Remer is a Democrat and Faulconer is a Republican and according to survey conducted by San Diego pollster Competitive Edge Research, Faulconer leads Lawson-Remer 30% to 23% with 46.5% undecided. La Prensa first reported the poll.
The district covers Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, east to Harmony Grove, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, La Jolla and Coronado.
Supervisors Nora Vargas (D1), who chairs the board, and Joel Anderson (D2), whose district covers some parts of North County, are also up for re-election but expected to easily win re-election.
Locally, the past several months has seen some new challengers come forward, while others have dropped out or moved to other races.
