Custom home builder caters to clients, eyes SB 9

Escondido-based Buildable brings new method of developing to the region; sees a big opportunity to expand its business through controversial Senate Bill 9

ESCONDIDO — Developing homes is easier said than done.

But for Nick Parisi and his business partner, Michelle Pettycord, their custom home-building business is bustling but is also looking at Senate Bill 9 as another way to grow their enterprise. The two have built, or are in the process, of building more than a dozen homes since they started Buildable in 2021.

The custom home gives the buyer the ability to construct their dream home, while Parisi and Pettycord and their team ensure all the bases are covered. And there are a lot of bases.

In addition, the company is also seeing more interest from current homeowners who are looking to subdivide their lots to take advantage of the controversial Senate Bill 9.

“Essentially, we’re a white glove service to a custom home where we help you every step of the way,” Parisi said. “Finding the right lot, understanding what improvements are required, understanding what challenges you may be subjected to by developing this property and providing due diligence services, so you know the risks before you buy it.”

Parisi spent 15 years in product management from Nike to Microsoft, also co-founded the San Diego Tech Hub, and was the chief marketing officer at a startup but was laid off due to COVID. However, Parisi said he always wanted to build his own home.
