Chick & Hawk nears launch in Leucadia amid resident pushback
Restaurant in Encinitas prepares to open, blending skate culture and gourmet chicken, but neighbors say the city must enforce long-standing restrictions on bar use
ENCINITAS — In the heart of Leucadia, a long-awaited culinary and cultural mashup is preparing to take flight.
Chick & Hawk, a collaboration between Encinitas icon and legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk and Michelin-recognized chef Andrew Bachelier, is ready to spread its wings in the former Fulano’s building. The concept is Nashville hot chicken, 1990s skate nostalgia and fast dining.
However, neighbors are pushing back, urging the city to enforce a long-standing stipulation the use of a bar without a major use permit modification for the existing conditional use permit.
Daniel Murray, among others who live nearby, said the issue stems from 1997, when residents voiced their concerns in a petition to ABC protesting the major use permit at this location, citing worries about loss of parking, noise, and increased risk of collisions and incidents involving alcohol.
