At the San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC), we believe in the power of data-driven insights to tell the stories of the companies and organizations that shape our region.

One recent example of this is our economic impact report for California Schools VEBA (CalVEBA), which highlights the profound effect this organization has on our local economy. In 2023 alone, CalVEBA generated more than $1.1 billion in economic activity within San Diego County, which equates to nearly 10 times the impact of Comic-Con.

Founded in 1993 by the California Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association, CalVEBA is a non-profit trust that provides accessible, value-based healthcare benefits for public sector employees, including educators and municipal workers. Today, its programs benefit more than 107,000 members from more than 50 school districts, municipal agencies, and public employers across the region.
