The role of chambers of commerce has evolved dramatically over the years. Traditionally, chambers focused heavily on business advocacy, ensuring favorable policies on taxes, regulations, and wages. While these concerns remain critical, today’s business environment demands that we expand our focus to address the broader challenges impacting businesses and the communities they serve.
As the Chief Executive Officer of the Vista Chamber of Commerce, I believe that while advocating for pro-business policies remains essential, the biggest challenge businesses face today is attracting and retaining skilled talent. But solving this issue requires more than just improving wages or benefits — it demands a holistic approach that addresses housing, health care, education, childcare and infrastructure. At the Vista Chamber, we are not just acknowledging these challenges; we are actively working to tackle them.
