Carlsbad coffee collaboration expands
Local coffee expert and journalist moves forward with partnership in an effort to enhance coverage and visibility of the coffee industry
CARLSBAD — Like a good slow roast, his coffee business is growing and taking the next step.
Ryan Woldt of Carlsbad and founder of
is elevating his love for coffee through a new partnership with Wisconsin-based Roastar as the presenting sponsor for the R!WC podcast and coffee network. The show delivers insights into the coffee industry and will offer more educational content for entry-level and established coffee roasters.Woldt, a native of Wausau, Wisc., has long covered the coffee industry, which includes the podcast, but took a big step forward last year with a collaboration with Bryant Banker-Scannell of Relativity Coffee Company in Minneapolis. The two launched Yeah, No... Yeah Coffee to celebrate their midwestern roots.
Roastar, meanwhile, provided the packaging for the collaboration and now the company and Woldt are expanding their efforts.
“Meeting and collaborating with the team from Roastar has been a fruitful relationship,” Woldt said. “Beyond the excellent quality of the packaging — which I’ve used to offer samples and in collaboration roasts — I’ve also seen how our missions to support small businesses and efforts in sustainability align. It was a coincidence that the company happened to be based in my hometown.
“This collab allows me to continue expanding my efforts to share inspiring stories from the coffee industry and share the pride I feel that good work is being done by a good company from the place I'll always identify as home.”
In 2022, Woldt stopped by the Roastar packaging booth at a coffee convention in Los Angeles. An employee’s name tag showed the company’s hometown of Wausau, Wisc., which caught Woldt’s eye as the city is Woldt’s hometown.
The shared connection to central Wisconsin led to a conversation and then Roastar's long-term support of R!WC as the presenting sponsor of the Coffee People podcast, which shares the stories of coffee industry (and industry adjacent) professionals.
With this partnership, the podcasts will move beyond audio to offer video episodes. Together, they will create more educational offerings for entry-level and established coffee roasters. The partnership enables the expansion of R!WC’s efforts to share the stories of the unique community found in the coffee industry.
The podcast is offered across various platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube.
Woldt said the partnership uplifts the coffee community by freely sharing their stories and collected knowledge with their shared audiences. Additionally, upcoming events and promotions like the Free Coffee Tour will lead to future opportunities to ensure coffee roasters have the information and great packaging they need to tell their big story.
“I’ve been a regular listener of Ryan’s podcast since our chance encounter on the trade show floor at Coffee Fest LA in 2022,” Roastar's Specialty Coffee Ambassador Nick Schmitt said. “His genuine curiosity and passion for the coffee industry is truly contagious. Despite having gone to rival high schools, I can’t think of anyone better for Roastar to collaborate with. I’m excited to join the show more often to share stories, insights, and all the ways Roastar helps coffee pros do what they do best — all conversations that seem to come naturally in Ryan’s welcoming presence. I can’t wait to see where this partnership brings us.”
Roastar’s mission, meanwhile, is every business deserves to “look like a big deal.” They offer quick turnaround times for custom packaging and champion sustainable packaging efforts and innovation.
They offer a fully online ordering process, including an A.I.-powered design lab giving customers access to the highest-quality packaging around — all made in the U.S.
