Bills from local legislators move through the legislature touching on a variety of issues from e-bikes to psychedelic-assisted therapy to a statewide plastic bag ban
STATE — North County legislators are working hard to see their bills take the next step and advance through the state legislature in hopes of landing on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.
The legislative session has several months left as many bills are making their way through committees. Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner (D-Encinitas) has several pieces addressing e-bikes and bike safety, while Assemblywoman Marie Waldron (R-Escondido) is working to pass a bill to allow a workgroup to study the framework for governing psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Sens. Brian Jones (R-San Diego) and Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) have a similar bill to Waldron’s where a bill from the two would create a pilot program for veterans and first responders to access psilocybin or psilocin for mental health treatments.
Sen. Catherine Blakespear, meanwhile, continues to push forward with a statewide plastic bag ban, which would also require recycled paper bags to come from material that is at least 50% recycled, among other details.
