North County San Diego is a diverse and dynamic community, offering an array of cultural, recreational, and educational events for all ages and interests.

Here are the latest events for the week of July 1-7:
CARLSBAD
July 1
Scavenger hunt! Join the Shine Project Foundation for a scavenger hunt in Carlsbad Village. The event runs July 1-31 and the Shine Project specifically designs events for special needs families. Participants must register for the free event.
July 3
Showtime! Join the New Village Arts for their production of the groundbreaking musical “The Color Purple.” The show is based on the Pulitzer-prize winning book runs until July 14.
July 4
Boom! Legoland hosts the city’s annual fireworks Red, White and BOOM! celebration show, which typically starts between 8:30-9 p.m. The show usually lasts about 20 minutes. There are many great viewing points such as the Strawberry Fields and the nearby businesses to name a few.
BBQ! Check out the Park Hyatt Aviara's annual barbecue and firework display. Enjoy live entertainment and experience a classic barbecue. The event run from 5-9:30 p.m. and tickets are here.
July 5
Concert time! Join the city of Carlsbad as its TGIF Concerts in the Park returns and features Finnegan Blue. The summer series is at Stagecoach Community Park, 3420 Camino de los Coches. The concert site opens at 4 p.m. with the show starting at 6 p.m. There will be new security measures, check-in procedures, a bike valet and parking is available at La Costa Canyon High School, 1 Maverick Way.
DEL MAR
July 3
Back to the Past! Get ready as The San Diego County Fair returns from June 12-July 7 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. This year’s theme is “Let’s go Retro!” with attractions from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and more. The fair includes a catwalk, a musical time warp, a video game arcade, diner delights plus all the rides one can handle. The show schedule is as follows: Yung Gravy w/ Special Guest Tayler Holden (July 3), The Stickmen Project (July 6) and Hombres G (July 7).
July 4
Fair Fourth! One of the biggest fireworks shows in the county happens at the San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. and reservations in the grandstand are recommended. Tickets are $20-$25 and includes admission to the fair.
ENCINITAS
July 3
Concert! Join the city of Encinitas for its free concert series featuring Twin Picks, a local jazz guitar duo specializing primarily in the classic standards from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Fans of improvisational jazz guitar and this traditional genre are sure to be pleased. The show is from noon-1 p.m. at the Encinitas Public Library, 540 Cornish Dr.
ESCONDIDO
July 4
Big day! The California Center for the Arts, Escondido will host a free fireworks show and four-day concert series to celebrate Fourth of July. July 4 is an all-day event with live music, while the fireworks show runs from 9:05-9:20 p.m. As for the concerts, they will feature Daring Greatly (5-6 p.m.), Ian Moore (6:15-7:30 p.m.) and Navy Band Southwest (8-9 p.m.).
July 5
Cruise the street! Join the city of Escondido as “Cruisn’ on Grand” returns to downtown. Check out American-made pre-1974 classic, custom, vintage, muscle, and hot rod cars cruising Grand Avenue. Street closures will take place on the side streets Maple St., Broadway, Kalmia, and North Juniper) from Second Ave. to Valley Parkway. The event runs every Friday throughout the summer. The event runs from 4-9 p.m.
OCEANSIDE
July 3
More fireworks! Del Mar Beach at Camp Pendleton from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Early birds can claim their spots on the sand but be careful as the tide rises and falls during the day. Here is the July 4th tide chart. The annual 4th of July beach bash is a weekend celebration for Marine Corps families. There is a free kids’ fun zone open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 4. Military members may bring civilian friends.

Dance! Check out the Oceanside Theatre Company’s production of the class, “Footloose,” which runs on July 12-14 and July 19-21. The Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 p.m. and the Sunday shows at 2 p.m. Get tickets here.
SAN MARCOS
July 4
Ka-BOOM! The city hosts its annual Red, White and BOOM! show at Bradley Park, which runs from 5-9 p.m. There will be carnival games, jumpers, food vendors and live music.
July 6
Hiking! Join the city of San Marcos for a 6.5-mile hike with 580 feet of elevation gain to the northern city limits on urban trails following the rail trail east and visiting Hollandia Park and catch views of Mulberry Park. An easy, three-mile hike will also be offered. The hike is from 8-11 a.m. and participants meet at the Community Center, 3 Civic Center Dr.

Movie night! Join the city of San Marcos for its free movies-in-the-park series on July 12 featuring “Trolls Band Together.” Pre-Show activities start at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. There will be food truck options and popcorn is provided.
SOLANA BEACH

Concerts at the Cove! Partnering with the Belly Up Tavern, the City of Solana beach presents the Concerts at the Cove series, featuring many local musicians performing on the Fletcher Cove stage. Concerts will be held from 6 p.m.-7:45 p.m. every Thursday night until Aug. 8. On July 11, the Coronado Big Band will perform. The event is free and open to the public.
Art show! Sixteen talented members of the San Dieguito Art Guild (SDAG) have been selected to show and sell their artwork at the Solana Beach City Hall from July 9-Aug. 28. The exhibition will feature a diverse range of art forms, including stained glass, oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture, and mosaics..
VISTA
July 4
The city’s annual show is at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Dr. The event starts at 7 a.m. and features picnic and family activities throughout the day. The theatre opens at 5 p.m. with a barbecue dinner inside the theatre at 6:30 p.m. (tickets required) and the fireworks display starts at 9 p.m. A concert by The Cassie B Project starts at 7:35 p.m.

Movie time! Join the city of Vista for its movies-in-the-park series on July 13 featuring the animated film, “Wish.” The free movie starts at 8 p.m. at the Brengle Terrace Park softball fields, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive.
Farmer’s Markets
The Grand Farmers Market runs from 2:30-7 p.m. every Tuesday on Juniper Street between Grand Avenue and Valley Parkway at Heritage Park. The market has a great selection of produce and meats with a variety of vendors.
The open-air San Marcos Farmer’s Market is year-round and is held every Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at 251 N. City Dr. off Twin Oaks Valley Road and across from Cal-State San Marcos.
The State Street Farmer’s Market in Carlsbad is every Wednesday from 2:30-6 p.m. on State Street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue. This lively market features amazing produce, organic eats, locally prepared food, live entertainment and an all-around good vibe.
*Note: The State Street Farmer’s Market spring/summer hours are 2:30-7 p.m. from March 10 through Nov. 3.
The Oceanside Farmer’s Market is held every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Sunset Market every Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the corner of Pier View Way and Coast Highway. The popular market provides a delicious display of local produce, meats, flowers and nursery items!
The Vista Farmer’s Market is the county’s longest running market and is every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon, rain or shine at the San Diego County Courthouse, 345 S. Melrose Dr.
The Cardiff Farmer’s Market at Mira Costa College, 3333 Manchester Ave., runs every Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and features numerous international food vendors, food and plant vendors plus much more!
The Del Mar Farmer's Market is the second oldest in the region and is every Saturday from noon–4 p.m. on the lower outdoor parking lot at the Del Mar Civic Center, 1050 Camino Del Mar. This certified, non-profit market brings to the community a variety of fresh local produce, seafood, fresh coffee, locally prepared international specialty foods to enjoy on-site or to take home, artisan creations, and live music.
The Leucadia Farmer’s Market is every Sunday (except Easter) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Paul Ecke Central School, 185 Union St. in Encinitas. The market has a great collection of more than 30 certified growers, 10 certified organic and more than 70 total vendors.
The Bonsall Farmer’s Market and Open Air Faire runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday at Bonsall Elementary School, 31555 Old River Rd. The market highlights fresh garden-to-table locally grown fruits, veggies, hormone-free meat, local artisan cheese and much more.
The Solana Beach Farmer’s Market runs every Sunday from noon-4 p.m. (except on Easter, July 4, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day) The market features organic farmers with nature's finest produce to skilled artisans crafting one-of-a-kind creations, our vendor lineup is a celebration of local talent and creativity.
